Knight Foundation pledges $2M for digital platforms
The John and James L. Knight Foundation pledged $2M to strengthen the digital platforms of newsrooms across the country. These funds will go towards developing publishing tools that will help newsrooms improve distribution and community engagement, as well as drive revenue through membership and digital subscriptions. Grants of up to $20,000 will be used to bolster audience development, business development, and editorial content in order to help newsrooms connect with communities around salient issues including racial justice and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Of the 24 newsrooms to receive initial grants, 58% are led by or serve communities of color, 58% are nonprofit newsrooms, and 42% are local newsrooms.
